As a millennial I want a Harley. But I can’t justify spending 10k on a used bike that’s not reliable and costs an arm and a leg to maintain.

So is everything else, Nobody has any money in today’s economy with house payments and rent through the roof. Politicians are making it big from the Mayor’s to the so called President of the US. People cannot live beyond their means anymore because it’s way beyond that now.

I am Gen X, I ride lots of types and makes of bikes, but Love My Evo Sportster, such a fun bike, and easy to fix and customize. ( sounds awesome too)

Half the used bikes on the net are Harley's at some pretty low prices and they don't seem to sell quickly. Resale ? looks bad to me.

And then....there are a lot younger generation people with no interest in motorcycles at all. You could have gone the angle that, well motorcycles are dangerous. Good health plans tend to go with good jobs so....

America isn't a free market. It's a mixed market with some government regulations and control. You literally talk about how the government PRINTS MONEY. You know, the CURRENCY FOR A MARKET. Also, the whole reason rich people invest in things like real estate and the stock market is to keep their money from losing value when the government inflates the dollar. So basically, the government fucks up everything it touches. A free market would we better than what we have now. May not be perfect, but better.

You lost your camera

Buying from a dealership. Just arrived home with a used bike. They want to add “theft protection “ for 500 and “appearance protection “ for 500. Theft is a deal where if your boiler gets stolen, they will give you 5,000 . Appearance is they will repair any incidental damage to your seat or paint. 500 bucks. At the dealership for two hours being ran around to different l departments in the store. Get one from an individual. Give them the money and ride away

Millennials are not "scared" of motorcycles. Thats just your Gen X hate for people younger than you. I work 3 jobs and still cannot afford a new motorcycle. We. Cannot. Afford. Them. Simple as.

Im the oldest millenial possible, but from europe. I would never buy that overpriced piece of crap DESPITE i totally LOVE the sound it makes and the looks the classic harleys from 1950s-1990s have. And I grew up on "easy rider" movie. Because it always was an overpriced piece of shit with 100 years old ancient technology that rides bad, is slow and isnt exactly reliable, but costs 3x more than a japanese machine with same performance. And the culture around is filled with asshole upper middle class middle aged shitheads, that dont know shit about bikes in general, but owning that thing makes them feel they are the american dream for a weekend and they act like total dicks to all other people. Also the new ones dont even have the beautiful look old harleys had, they are super ugly. Im actualy suprised they could sell their bikes for those insane prices in the first place. And the whole culture started in a barn, where young POOR rebels modified their CHEAP surplus army and poice harleys for better performance on streets and thats how the whole chopper thing started. It was cheap thing and a youth culture. Not for 60yo rich lawyers.

I have 2018 Scott 60 and love it and am glad Polaris was the one to revive the name!!!! Don’t get me wrong though have always liked Harley my problem is I want on true ones 60s on back. And as far as that goes on who just remember they sold out to AMF who really didn’t care about quality just crank out and if not for Reagan in the 80s putting high terrorist on over seas bikes and help bail Harley out they might have bit the bullet too.

Bought a Harley Davidson bike recently and really regretted that but they are the biggest liars .they over charge for their warrantys the bike isn't that old and it's already giving trouble it's junk.but things got better when I bought a Honda rebel now that's a good bike.harley sucks

My girlfriend has some riding on street motorcycles and wanted to get a dual sport, I said we should look for an XT 250 or a dr200, whichever is the better deal. We found a nearly new dr200 for $3,750 Canadian and grabbed it right way. She's only about 5'2 and 105 pounds so I I don't think she will notice the lack of power as much.

Don't forget the most glorious brand. Suzuki.

My dad has a 15’ chieftain dark red with the 111 thunderstroke, his first bike in two decades l, when I asked him “why Indian?” He said it simply, the Indian is all new with bold classic styling, and the Harley looks like the same bike they sold since the early 00’s.

yeah their pretty much garbage now,& cant get parts,so dont buy any,,,the truth is far less costly,,fact.

Because they are overpiced, under powered, not made in America, and the community is really snobbish. Prime example. The Japanese cruiser market has more reliable bikes that make more power, and are cheaper with far better engine life expectancy. Yeah… fuck Harley.

Millennial here, bought a Harley! Used… Harley has the choice to produce simplistic and affordable motorcycles, but they are opting for hi tech components and digital displays. I understand keeping up with what other brands are doing can be important, but Harley doesn’t need to do that. They really need to understand that a large percentage of their market buys older, used bikes.Not only because of the cost…but also because some people like the sound and feel that Harley used to have and not what they are putting out today. I own an ‘04 and am rebuilding my Dad’s ‘87. I would never own a Goldwing, a scout bobber, etc. Not because they aren’t good bikes, because I think they are ugly. Harley needs to get back to simple, loud, affordable, and easily wrenchable bikes. I would put 2 years of work and $8k into building my own chopper over buying a bike with Apple play, ABS, etc. Maybe that’s just me though.

I’ll never own another one. Currently happy with Yamaha- not as “pretty” but starts and runs every time.

In the rest of the world, the people who help you when you’re broken down at the side of the road are called Fellow Motorcyclists. Doesn’t matter what you ride.

But of course the other thing is that motorcycles, after the ‘you meet the nicest people’, revolution of the sixties, have gone back to being too big, too heavy, too scary, too fast, and too expensive, and some of those adjectives also apply to the people who ride them

They don't seem to have any fear about viruses. I take precautions after riding for 55 years, and the same idea around possible infections. Maybe that's just me. It also may be a rural/urban difference. My wife and I love your little Cassidy. (You'll need a Teeshirt, "You can't tell me what to do; you're not my daughter!")
